I have been a big fan of TED and its talks since its inception. Few talks have touched me as profoundly as Aziz Abu Sarah and Maoz Inon's face-to-face talk. Their courage and leadership gave me a 'home' in this conflict. I, too, believe that peace is the most remarkable feat to be achieved. Their example is proof that it is possible. I am happy they met with the Pope and are getting the media coverage they deserve. Could you take time to listen to their heartfelt conversation below? It may bring you the hope you may have yearned for since the conflict began.https://lnkd.in/ezGXktNg

There are many examples of peace-making, that should inspire educated persons in commenting on the war between Hamas and Israel. ---In the 1940s, there was terrible ethnic cleansing on the borders of Poland, Ukraine, and Lithuania. Millions were evicted in Stalinist ethnic cleansing from 1945-1950. In the 1980s, Poland proclaimed that it did not want to reclaim its old cities or territories but rather that Poland wanted to live in friendship with Lithuania and Ukraine. As usual with Poland and Poles, their word was true and they have supported their neighbors ever since.--- A century earlier, the United States seized half of México in "one of the most unjust ever waged by a stronger against a weaker nation", according to General Ulysses S. Grant (later President). Yet, México and the US are peaceful neighbors, who focus on their mutual and own problems. --- Two centuries earlier, Sweden defeated the Danish Army and took the Northeastern territories of Denmark. Again, Swedes and Danes have long lived in peace. ---

THE ORIGIN OF THE PRO HAMAS MOVEMENT IN THE US“As an award-winning copywriter and creative director in ad agencies and a professor of Communication at USC, I have developed an intuitive antenna to detect similarities between writing styles, idea styles and conceptual creation. In the early years of this pro-Palestinian campaign, I could see the commonalities of excellence, style and manipulation across all their platforms. Teaching on a university campus gave me a front-row seat at this theater of darkening skies.People of color, particularly antisemitic Black groups like BLM, were organizing to identify with the Palestinians. Many organizations representing people seen as oppressed were moved to identify with the Palestinians. Students of every variety were swayed. I could see the commonalities of language creation and transfer — my field — being applied to the Jews. Many of them were old antisemitic tropes into which new life was being breathed: Israel and Jews are colonialists just like other white oppressors around the world. Israel is an apartheid society, the same as South Africa was. Jews have white privilege, even though more than 50% of Jews are dark-skinned people from the Arab world, Iran and Africa. Jews hold power in media and banking, making them the enemy. Jews center themselves as capitalists and donors. Jews don’t hold space for anyone but themselves. Jews need to be held accountable for the pain they are causing. If you challenged any of this you were a racist, the worst thing you could possibly be accused of. (Except if you are racist against Jews. Then you prove you are a true ally of the oppressed.) Our enemies have had a real success. They have formed a winning international communication army with trained troops everywhere.”🥹

Many Americans still see Israel as being like America in its founding myths - people going into a hostile territory and taking it over. As we shift into the 21st century, many Americans do not want to think about the human rights issues involved with this. So, the question now is: Is it possible to do in the 21st century what has being going on a for a few hundred years in other parts of the world (particularly, the USA)?As this report points out, for young people, identifying with Palestine has become part of the progressive left. What needs to be done is that students at American universities need to engage with the issue of Israel as a settler colonial state instead of being pressured to shut down the discussion. There is currently a sea-change in their views of Palestine for people under 29, and particularly those of colour in this demographic. Even among young American Jews, between 35-40% see Israel as an apartheid state. The people of colour have more experience with colonialism or segregation, and they quickly see connection of a people who are not treated equally by those in power. But, the American foreign policy discourse remains very, very white according to this report. This can be expected to change in the Democratic party after Biden. When there is an uptick in violence by Israel that kills Palestinians, there is data to show a rise in anti-Semitism in the USA and the world. This response is wrong because people need to take into account that there is a difference between Israel the state and people who are Jewish (and could hold any number of views). Likewise, it would be wrong to blame a Muslim for what Saudi Arabia or Pakistan is doing. Remember, Judaism was around long before Zionism! But, Netanyahu wants to confound Zionism with Judaism to stave off criticism of Israel's apartheid policy. The fact that the Jewish diaspora is living safely around the world is a threat to Israel (because Zionism was founded with the idea that Jews needed their own homeland to be safe after the Holocaust).https://lnkd.in/ge7xxidD

Irish Taoiseach Leo Varadkar speaking in Washington for St Patrick's Day. "The people of Gaza... need the bombs to stop" and the Israeli hostages need to be returned. He goes on to re-state the Irish position that the only secure future lies in a two-state solution. "The life of a Palestinian child is equal to that of an Israeli one". Business has been largely silent on what is happening but we need to reflect on the role it can play. At this time of year, we can reflect on our own peace process on the island of Ireland and the peace dividend that is seeing greater investment and cross community dialogue to build a peaceful future with opportunity. As An Taoiseach references, 'Parity of Esteem" between the two communities is a crucial principle. This work takes years, and is still a work in progress. It requires time, honest brokers, commitment, creativity and determination. Compromise is challenging but necessary. While an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and avoidance of widespread famine there must be the current priority, who is creating a vision for peaceful, prosperous, and Just co-existence in Gaza, the West Bank and Israel? How can the peacemakers be supported? Traumatised societies need support from the wider international community, and from all sectors, in moving towards a lasting peaceful resolution. Being a bystander is not the answer. How do we start a meaningful conversation in business? https://lnkd.in/eDYnq9MQ

🌍🇵🇸 Addressing Misinformation: The Importance of Accurate Historical Representation 🇵🇸🌍Recently, leaflets distributed by certain Zionist groups have circulated a provocative and historically statement: "From the River to the Sea, Palestine never existed." These leaflets display a map of "Greater Israel," encompassing the occupied West Bank, Gaza, Rafah and the Golan Heights.🗺️ Why This Matters:Historical Accuracy: Palestine has a long and rich history, with cultural and historical ties to the region that cannot be erased by political rhetoric.Respect and Dignity: Acknowledging the historical and present-day realities of all peoples in the region is essential for mutual respect and peaceful coexistence.Combatting with Israel: Help Israel by US and Europeans to eliminate any Muslim and Palestinian revolts for their rights📢 What Can We Do:Educate Ourselves and Others: Learn about the history and current situation in Palestine and Israel from reliable sources.Promote Dialogue: Engage in conversations that foster understanding and empathy between different communities.Stand for Truth: Reject and correct misinformation when encountered, promoting narratives based on facts and respect. Being a human we have to support Palestine instead of Israel and Zionist Jewish🌟 Call to Action:Let's use our platforms to share accurate information and support efforts toward a just and peaceful resolution. Your voice can make a difference in promoting understanding and truth.#Palestine #Israel #HistoricalAccuracy #Peace #Solidarity #EducateForPeaceTogether, we can work towards a more informed and compassionate world.

A Call for Unity and Cooperation Amidst ConflictAs we mark Christmas Eve, it's heartrending to acknowledge the ongoing conflict in the land where Jesus was born—a land now overshadowed by devastating violence. The stark reality: Over 20,000 lives lost in Palestine, the majority being innocent children, and around 2,000 in Israel since October 7th, 2023. This isn't just a conflict; it's a humanitarian crisis transcending political, religious, and ethnic boundaries. This Christmas, as celebrations are dimmed by the shadows of war, let's remember: We're all passengers on this beautiful, rocky blue pearl we call Earth, journeying together through the universe.Drawing from the lessons of the Prisoner's Dilemma and historical events like the Cold War, we're reminded that cooperation, not conflict, is our path to collective survival and prosperity.Today, let's set aside our differences. Let's NOT view this through the lens of politics, religion, or ethnicity, but as a shared human experience. My message is clear: Cooperation is our only way forward, whether this is the way you want it or not. Let's unite for the present and future of our shared home—this beautiful blue pearl in the sky.- Munir Jojo-Verge

With so many emotionally-led publications on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, I tried to take a step back and analyse its historical evolution from an objective point of view. Here is the first part of a paper that attempts to explain the complexity of the context and how the current situation unfolded. Have a good read!

In the West, where #democracy and #freedom are considered our most precious #export products, it's remarkable that we present Israel as a #model for the Arab world. This peculiar choice reveals not only our own moral #ambiguity but also the insincerity of our democratic #rhetoric. The support that we, in the West, offer to the unjust #foreign policy of the US, especially concerning the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, is downright shameful. We have become #complicit in ethnic #cleansing and #genocide. It's time for the #EU to wake up and distance itself from the US-Israeli #alliance. It's high time we rediscover our own #values and become a reliable #negotiating partner on the international stage.Let's not forget the influential role of #lobby groups like #AIPAC in American politics. Presidential candidates cannot win without their approval, granting #Israel an untouchable status, regardless of who the next #president might be. This toxic #relationship often drowns out critical voices, such as that of #Spain, amidst a sea of bias. It's time we remove our rose-colored glasses and no longer romanticize Israel's bloody history. As of October 7, 2023, 70 massacres have preceded. The state of Israel has risen from the ashes of what was once #Palestine. While the country is often portrayed as a shining example of democracy, upon closer inspection, it appears more like an #ethnocracy. The term 'democracy' is used to hide the reality of #occupation and #oppression.Unconditional support for Israel reveals a glaring imbalance in our foreign #policy. While we condemn countries like Iraq and Iran, Israel always remains untouched, despite blatant violations of international #laws and #human rights. It's time to critically examine our own role in this problematic dynamic. If we are sincere about promoting democracy and freedom in the Middle East, we must hold Israel to the same stringent standards as other countries. Only then can we foster a fair, sustainable peace in the #region. The current #government of Israel, led by far-right and religious groups, deserves no understanding or support. Bombardments have even obstructed the celebration of the #birth of Jesus Christ in #Bethlehem.Bombarding centuries-old sacred #places of worship shows reckless disregard for the foundations of our Western #civilization. These actions are not aimed at Hamas but constitute an attack on universal #humanity.Israel's current direction pushes the country towards isolation, making even a historic #agreement with Saudi Arabia seem further away than ever. In this context, it becomes clear that the #security of Israel and citizens worldwide is increasingly under threat.#Israel #Hamas #Gaza #Palestine #FreePalestine #peace #war #journalism #politics #UNICEF #ruleoflaw #BRICS #Muslim #NATO #UN #EUMust watch video 👇
