16 sep 2016 · George had many flaws but he fundamentally wasn't a bad person and he was working to improve himself which is something commendable.
Honestly no. I think that each character Ryukishi created was meant to have positive and negative traits, and that’s why George has negative traits (but Jessica has them as well, even if people notice them a lot less). Sayo/Beato didn’t need to put emphasis on them (also she loved George, though not as much as Battler so it would feel sort of mean from her to depict George as worse than he was). Although I strongly dislike George’s behaviour, he’s actually very human and the way he acts is not so horrible when put into perspective. In fact, while many things that George says or do can feel disturbing we’ve to remember that many of George’s flaws are due to how he grew and was raised as well as the culture in which he lived. And here, I fear, it’s the point in which I end up talking quite a bit about George so, if people isn’t interested I guess they can stop here. If not… George felt superior to Jessica and Battler because he was taught that his behaviour was ‘better’. Also, being the older cousin, he was, by default, ‘better’. The adults around him praised him instead than helping him to ponder on the sides of his character that weren’t good. Eva likely also encouraged George’s superiority complex, as she wanted him to steal the title from Jessica. George is submitted to his parents’ will and they force him to study a lot, even against his will.
