I’m finally back with a new post! Life has been incredibly busy, and I did not have much time left to post on my blog. However, this `most popular nail polish shade of …’ series is definitely not something that I wanted to skip! In case you’ve never read any of the posts of this series before: I’m re-swatching the five most popular nail polish shades of the previous season. It’s basically an excuse for me to revisit some older shades, but it’s also fun to see what is trending right now! In case you want to see the previous posts, you can find them here.
Anyway, this season’s post is quite exciting. It features five shades that have never been in the top five of most popular shades and I think the shades also clearly show that people were already preparing for Spring and Summer! I definitely had a fun time swatching these shades!
5. OPI Surf naked
OPI Surf Naked was one of the shades from OPI’s Summer 2022 collection. There were a couple of shades of the Summer 2022 collection that almost made it to this top five, but in the end Surf Naked was the only one that made it. I personally understand it, because this cute blue polish is just too good.
Surf naked is a pearly light blue, and it’s very cute. The formula is also really nice and dries to a semi-matte finish without top coat. I did have to use three coats to completely get rid of all the dark spots, but it’s worth it in my opinion.
4. Essie Suits you swell
It was a surprise to me to see Essie Suits you swell in this top five. It was released in early 2020 as part of Essie’s Sunny business collection. I personally almost forgot about this violet shade, but wearing it again made me realize how much I love it. It’s quite unique for a nail polish but it’s very fun to wear!
The formula of Suits you swell is surprisingly good. It only took me two coats to reach complete opacity!
3. Essie Swoon in the lagoon
Essie Swoon in the lagoon is another shade that I was surprised to see in this top five. It’s a super pretty mid-tone magenta with an incredible formula, but Essie has so many of these type of shades that I was surprised that specifically Swoon in the lagoon was suddenly so popular, especially since it was released over two years ago!

2. OPI kind of a twig deal
In all honesty, I wasn’t surprised to see Kind of a twig deal here. It has been super popular on my Pinterest ever since I posted it last year. It almost made it to this top five a couple of times, but it was always overtaken by other shades. This blush pink creme definitely deserves its moment in the spotlight, so I’m happy it finally made it to this top five!

1. OPI Without a pout
Now I guess OPI Without a pout was the biggest surprise to me. Usually, it takes a while before new shades get picked up by Pinterest, but Without a pout was an instant hit. Wearing it again, I very much understand it. It’s a very nice pink and cheerful pink that you can’t go wrong with! It’s just impossible to be unhappy when you’re wearing this shade.
I did have to use three coats to get rid of all the patchiness, but it was so worth it!
Conclusion
As you can probably tell, this top five was initially not what I was expecting, but it was definitely a fun one! I think the main observation is that we are seeing a lot of pink shades again this year. I expected the pink trend would be over after the 2023 Barbie year, but I guess we’re not done yet!
If I had to make a prediction for the most popular shades of Spring 2024, I would definitely predict that we are seeing OPI Without a pout again. Probably combined with some neutrals and other shades of pink.
Finally, it is also worth mentioning that this is the first time that Essie’s Win me over did not make it into this top five!
Bright, saturated shades will have their place in 2024, each with a pop-art infusion that makes the palette feel fresh. Goldstein expects a want of bold primary colors like cobalt blue, mustard yellow, and scarlet red, while Choi predicts vibrant wildflower hues like fuchsias and oranges.
Winter nail colors in particular are known to be cooler, richer, and more muted than other seasons of the year. The most popular winter nail colors include dark purples, intense blues, luxurious golds, and deep forest greens, according to Rianna Basurto, director of marketing and brand development at Bellacures.
“If you have a lighter skin tone, the color would differ depending on how fair your skin is, but corals, greens, and red would be good for older hands because it draws attention to the nails,” according to Orly. According to Orly, older adults with darker skin may look best in orange, gold, and gray shades.
Another nail shape that will be popular this year is short, square nails. "My personal preference is short because it's more practical and gives that clean, old-money look," explains Shelton.
If black feels too stark for you, then you might consider a beautiful midnight blue for winter. This color always reflects the cold weather and is the ideal choice for winter. For a look that doesn't appear too cold, you might want to find a blue that has warmer undertones.
Deep Red. What is winter without a classic red nail? This season, it's all about super-glossy, deep tones. Iram Shelton, resident manicurist at the Bulgari Hotel London, says, "A deep red is a classic colour which can be worn all-year round, not just during the winter months.
Pastel Hues: Soft and delicate pastel nail polish colors are also trending this year. These light shades bring a touch of elegance and femininity to your nails, perfect for those who prefer a more subtle and sophisticated look. Metallic Finishes: Metallic nail polish shades are gaining popularity in 2024.
“Nail polish colors that have cool tones—like blue, lavender, and light pink—typically complement people with cool undertones,” says celebrity manicurist Queenie Nguyen. Pastel colors, blue-based reds, and jewel tones are also very flattering.
Described as effortlessly cool, we prefer wearing it in the winter, as it's not too bright or summery and perfectly matches the chilly weather outside—and your cute winter outfits.
If you have a lighter skin tone, the color would differ depending on how fair your skin is, but corals, greens, and red would be good for older hands because it draws attention to the nails. If you have darker toned skin, choose shades of orange, gold, and grey.
Neutral Shades: Opt for neutral colors like nude, beige, rose, or soft pink. These shades create a clean and elegant look, giving the illusion of youthful hands.
Think fiery reds, splashy blues, and even vivid yellows alongside classic springtime hues like lavender and pink. These nail colors take inspiration from Fall/Winter 2024 runway shows, spring fashion trends, and mood-boosting elements of the season.
"Peachy manis are going to be back in," notes Shelton. "With the Pantone Color of the Year being a peach hue, I know there are going to be peach manis everywhere. Whether it's a solid color or playful nail art, peach will be a must! OPI Apricot AF is a color to have in your collection."
The classic French manicure is making a major comeback in 2024 — but with a twist. Perhaps the most undefeated nail trend to exist is the classic French manicure (remember when square acrylic...
"Look for playful lilac purples, pops of brightness in corals and chartreuse, and light neutrals like barely-there blush and pearly off-white," she shares. "The red nail theory takes a spring vibe with poppy-red shades with a heavy dose of pink or orange to boost them for the new season."
Try a lovely lavender or lilac color to capture the essence of blooming flowers. Alternatively, opt for a mint green or baby blue hue to create a refreshing and calming manicure. You can also experiment with a soft peach or coral shade for a subtle and feminine look.
If you look around TikTok, you'll notice short nails are on everyone's 2024 'In' lists, with many making the leap to shorter styles after years of long acrylics. Yep, it seems nail trends have done a full 180, with low-maintenance, short, and less attention-grabbing manis at the fore.
